Real-time discussions with staff and customers

Live chat

You are more than welcome to call us but we also offer two text-based systems where you can "live chat" with us. You can use "IRC" or "web live chat".

Web Live Chat

The Live Chat box will be on all of our web pages during office hours. This allows a quick and simple way to directly chat with a member of staff on a one-to-one basis. Your questions will only be seen by members of staff and you're able to chat with our pre-sales and support staff.

The live chat window can be found by clicking the 'chat' icon on the bottom/right this and other web pages.

IRC

Internet Relay Chat (irc) is a on-line live chat system which allows text messages to be posted and read in channels. A&A run an IRC service for use by our customers and others to interact with our staff. When you chat in a channel everyone else in that channel can see what you are asking, and staff or other customers there can help answer.

IRC Server Details

You can join irc via: webirc.aa.net.uk, choose a nickname and click start. Once connected you'll be able to chat with other customers as well as staff.

Please note that this is a public channel which contains a whole mix of people including A&A staff, our customers and anyone else. Please use private messages or other means to communicate to staff any personal information such as logins and account numbers.

There are many other irc servers and channels. It is a good idea not to get in to arguments as this is one of the causes of denial of service attacks. Whilst the A&A chat channel is pretty safe, some irc channels have hackers and script kiddies that can easily attack your broadband line if you offend them - so please be nice.

Staff do take part in the irc channel, but it can be quite lively from time to time. If you want to get the attention of a member of staff then use the word staff which will alert us. It helps to say if you need sales, support or accounts as well. Our staff generally have names starting AA-, eg AA-shaun.

You can send someone a private message (PM) by typing: /msg TheirNickname (including the initial /)

This will open a 'tab' where you can talk directly with that person. If someone sends you a PM, a tab will appear on your side.
